If i use the Alternate PCF8575 board which Donato Alesio suggested (this) I still have to connect the 5V to the SCL and SDA input ( but no resistor) and the SCL and SDA from the arduino mega .
Is this correct ?

No, connect only:
5 V to VCC;
SDA to SDA;
SCL to SCL;
GND to GND;
A0, A1 and A2 to GND.
